Using In situ hybridization to neurotransmitter mRNAs, I was able to demonstrate changes in the enkephalin, GAD , nitric oxide and somatostatin systems in various basal ganglia regions in post-mortem Parkinson's disease brains when compared to controls. The findings were broadly consistent with an animal models of PD and provided a rationale for the development of drugs with novel modes of action for the symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease. I have published on the use of cabergoline in Parkinson’s disease. I am currently involved with patient based research with the University of Sussex. I am interested in the cause of cell death in Parkinson's disease, the function of the basal ganglia, visual Function in PD, quantitative assessment of tremor & dyskinesia in PD.
